Anamorphic

I own traditional and my own “FasanellaScope” designed anamorphic lenses like ones used on Star Wars, Jaws, and other cinematic videos.

Characteristics of Anamorphic Lenses:

  • SPACE - The most cinematic aspect of anamorphic lenses for me is how they capture space. Imagine shooting a spherical 50mm lens but having 2x lenses next to each other so you have the flattering aspects of a tight 50mm lens but the width of a 25mm lens. This allows one to use the same lens for wides as you do on tight shots, like a zoom.

  • RATIO: While traditionally widescreen with 2:39 aspect ratio they also can be used to get 16x9 style footage (like in the 2nd season of true detective).

  • BOKEH (background Blur) - Anamorphic prime lenses are beautiful since they create a waterfall blur in the background with oval out of focus areas vs spherical round blurs.

  • FLARES - My anamorphic lenses can have cinematic horizontal lens flairs or none at all based on project needs.
